Toyota Tsusho Corporation founded in Japan have signed an agreement deal with the government of Ghana in order to create an assembly plant in the country which will be the only one present in West Africa for now.

After the deal was being signed by both parties The CEO of Toyota Tsusho, Ichiro Kashitani said the automobile company will completely establish a Toyota and Suzuki assembly plant in Ghana which will commence as from August, 2020 as agreed by Nana Akufo-Addo and the CEO of Toyota Tsusho, Ichiro Kashitani.

The Ghanian President, Akufo-Addo Nana, mentioned that the deal was in the fulfillment of the vision of making Ghana an automotive country for West Africa and in African market as a whole. “We consider the project of the assembly plant a marriage. It lasts for life, and it is a long-term project,” Kashitani said during the signing of the memorandum between the Ghanian government and the CEO of Toyota Tsusho Corporation. Ghana’s minister of trade & industry. Ghanian president said as we quote “We are attaching a great deal of importance to the initiative and development. We want to assure you that, whatever it is we can do on the side of the Ghana government to provide you with the necessary support and assurance that the investment you are going to make in our country will be worth your while, you can count on us to do that.”

Imai Toshimitsu, who is the Chief Operations Officer in charge of the Africa the chief operations officer in charge of the Africa division of Toyota, of Toyota Tsusho Corporation, mentioned that the decision taken by the Toyota Tsusho Corporation to establish an assembly plant in Ghana among other countries in Africa was motivated by the country’s stable economic situation. He said “We are willing to participate in the automotive industry in Ghana, I am very happy that we have reached the consensus and principal agreement to start the Toyota and Suzuki assembly plants. We are planning to kick-off the project immediately, and, hopefully, we will have first car made in Ghana this time (August 2020). Thank you very much for your support.”

Imai Toshimitsu also explained that the automobile giants, Toyota Tsusho Corporation decided to assemble mostly the Suzuki vehicles in Ghana after procuring 4.9% stake in Suzuki on the Wednesday which was 28th day of August, 2019. Toyota Tsusho, with 4.9% stake, is now a key shareholder in Suzuki vehicles assembling. Imai Toshimitsu said “The products to be assembled in Ghana include the Toyota Hilux pickup, which is already popular in Ghana. Since it will be locally produced, I hope it will be more popular. We are also planning to introduce small passenger cars, with two Suzuki brands. So, Suzuki products will be assembled and sold in Ghana. The cars which will be produced in Ghana are our core models for Africa and Ghana customers,”
