Grief came upon the residents of Nombe 2B village in Kashare sub-county Kashari county in Mbarara district, Uganda when a woman who was known as Lydia Kyomuhangi, in her late 60s stabbed 7 members of her family to death.  Lydia Kyomuhangi on Sunday night reportedly lured six of her grandchildren with soda and cake before locking them inside a family kitchen, where she used a machete to hack them to death, one by one.   She equally killed her daughter Annet who was 25 who had earlier on been chained in the bedroom. Her husband George Hangamaisho was also injured severely before the suspect went into hiding.  However, on Monday before noon she was caught and moved by a mob, according to Nombe village chairperson Charles Karoli.


The Police, led by Mbarara DPC Gad Murungi, came to the scenerio but reached when the suspect had already been killed by the villagers. Hangamaisho is currently receiving treatment at Mbarara hospital while the dead bodies are at the same facility’s mortuary before burial arrangements may be made.   The dead children have been identified as Apophia Kanshabe – 10 years, Osbert Nuwamanya – 8 years, Oscar Tarimweba – years, Claire Ankunda – 5 years, Addela Orishaba – just 9 months old and Mercy Owomugisha – just 6 months old
